Visit to Northern Highlands Regional High School

Students in Mr. Bob Merrilees' Honors Management classes at Northern Highlands Regional High School invited Stevie Awards president Michael Gallagher to speak to them about The American Business Awards and the state of American business.  Michael visited with them at the school in Allendale, New Jersey on Tuesday, November 12 2002, accompanied by a Stevie.

He asked the students to write to him about their views on the state of American business, and why they think The American Business Awards are important.  Here are some of their responses:

"I would just like to take time to thank you for coming into Mr. Merrilees' second period Management class.  Upon discussing business ethics in class, a student brought up the "Stevies'" as an example of rewards and recognition directed toward companies...After talking for a period of time on the subject, the class became intrigued and wanted to learn more.  Your visit was beneficial in many ways.  Because of our discussion in class I now realize how important it is to reward the positive values in the business world, especially in an unstable, and unpredictable time."

Alexandra Christensen

"I think that creating an award for people that aren't publicly known as leaders, but definitely deserve the recognition is a great idea...Giving people a chance to feel good about themselves and what they do is a great thing for the business world, especially at a time like this when big business leaders who make the wrong decisions are affecting the public's views on all businesses."

Andrew Sitomer

NHRS Period 3

"...CEO's and other top executives get the awards and recognition...Most of the time it is the "little" people who come up with the good ideas and inventions and it's usually the top executives who announce/utilize their ideas, leading people to believe they were the original inventors. With the "Stevies," all people get recognized and applauded and they compete against equal sized companies which means litterally everyone, who deserves it, will be recognized. "

Dana Strengberg

"The American Business Awards signifies what is good about business today. All we hear about in the news is how corrupt companies are and how they lie about everything. In today's society, we never hear about the companies that are honest and perform to the best of their ability without being corrupt. That is why this award is so important. "

Greg Ismach

"The American Business Awards is not only a good idea but to my mind, it is necessary to restore confidence in corporate America.  With small business playing such a large role in our economy, it is about time we acknowledge these unsung heros.  In almost every other industry there are awards for individual achievement and now with the introduction of the Stevies, individuals and groups in business will have their moment to shine and finally get the respect they deserve."
